Word & Thoughts from Q Double: Election 2010
"No, if you never see me another time in your life, if I die in the morning, I'll die saying one thing: the ballot or the bullet, the ballot or the bullet." - Malcolm X
*takes sip of Gran Marnier*
*takes deep breath*
I gave up on black folk.
This may sound brash and racist to some people. So let me explain myself. The actual number hasn't been calculated yet, but on Twitter, people are saying 4.7%, and on some news channels they are saying roughly 10%. So let's average that and say 7.35% of African Americans went out and voted for Election Day 2010. 7.35 muhfuckin percent!!! I don't have the numbers from 2008 when Barack Obama was running, but I'm sure that the percentage for that time is higher than the percentage of alcohol in Hennessey. That goes to show the world that black Americans don't give a fuck about giving a fuck.
"Why not blame African-Americans?? We have our first black President in office and less than half of our people voted... That's Black people problem, we always wanna point fingers at other people but not ourselves... I don't care about the other Nationalities voting because I'm black... U think Jewish People care if we vote? No! There Primary Focus is Making Sure the "Jews" Vote. So How Could you not blame your Own People?" - F. Jackson
For one, I'm not an advocate for voting in any means, but I am an advocate for priorities and black folk got theirs confused. You don't want to vote but you can wait outside the club for an hour, in the dead middle of winter on a windy Chicago night, all so you can just to get a glimpse of Waka Flocka in the VIP section. You call it priorities, but I call it nigga-shit. The older you get you tend to realize how important health insurance truly is. To think that you won't need it is ignorant because paying out of pocket for a simple physical hurts the bank. Nah though, fuck my voting voice, I'll just cop the new Jordan's and Call of Duty, nah mean.
"So they're saying only 10% of the black population voted this election....I wish I had more hands, so I could give us 4 Thumbs Down!!! You can't complain about how a company/gov't is run if you refuse to take part in the hiring process." - B. Newton
Records numbers went out and voted in 2008. That was history right there. What happened now? Real simple; the actors and entertainers who influenced many people to go out and vote are nowhere to be found. Only to return back into their world because the hype was over, "we won." I'm paraphrasing here, but clearly President Obama said this is only the beginning we must continue pushing forward. That didn't fall to deaf ears, there are people pushing forward, but you have the ones that just bought T-shirts and stickers just so they could be cool with the latest Obama gear. The Coon Network (B.E.T.) went from non-stop presidential coverage to...well...to shit. Did they show anything remotely useful about this year's election? Do the even show news on the channel??!!! In 2 year we went from "Yes We Can," to, "hide yo kids, hide yo wife."
"#Freeweezy yall!!!! He coming out 11/4. The game missed him."
We can sit in around and argue for hours about music and who's better than whom. We can rock "Free Weezy/Gucci/T.I." shirts and post shit about it on twitter or Facebook. We can make sure our 3 year old is dipped out in Polo and the new Jordan's before going to daycare.......but.......we can't sit around and speak on how there is not one black American sitting in the Senate now. We can't show our discomfort on the rising rates of tuition while financial aid is getting smaller and smaller for students who need it. We can't express our displeasure for the flawed educational system that some of our kids are in and how some parents have to attend a raffle just so their kids can have a chance so their kids can get in the school.
So for the 7.35% of Black Americans who voted, you voices hopefully were heard. To the ones that will complain about shit not being right, you can't find a job, school is costing too much and you need health insurance for your kids. I say this; Get the fuck out here with that bullshit!! 2008 election took most of us to the water and some of us learned how to drink it. The rest of you, well, you're the ones complaining because there's no liquor instead.
I gave up on black folk. Indeed. I have.

Wow. You definitely spoke the truth on this. I just wrote a post about my (non) voting experience.
*Hangs head in shame*
I can't even be mad though.....I have my own thoughts on politics/voting, but I won't blog in your comments section. :-)
Great post.
I have my own thoughts and views too. But when you got people, typically black people, complain about everything to complain about. Then don't do nothing to fix it; then fuck you and what you complaining about!!
Always on that wishful thinking crap. Then wonder why you still stuck where you at. If a muhfucka need money to get drugs, watch how hard they go to get that shit. They'll have cardboard signs just for that shit.
Flawed logic.
I've said it once, I've said it twice...I've even said it three or more times:
People are stupid.
Voter apathy is not just a "black" thing. Indeed, it transcends race, age, gender and penis size. Just Tuesday at work I was attempting to gauge election day participation of many of my caucasian female colleagues and none of them seemed too interested at all in the midterm elections (regardless of party affiliation).
But I agree with my co-defendant and author of this article, Q Double, this article isn't about white females. This is about BLACK people, our people.
Though I believe all politicians are full of shit and the two-party system is speech-by-speech, rally-by-rally tearing this country further apart, I DO believe in voting. Because contrary to popular belief...it DOES matter.
If it didn't matter why do you think oppressive lawmakers fought SO hard to keep blacks and women disenfranchised for so long? Of course it matters.
If it didn't matter then why is there always some wealthy lawyer, oil magnate, or otherwise legitimately financially well-off political aspirant in every race during every new election? Certainly it's not about the money. A politician's salary is only a meager six figures a year. A fraction of what some of these campaigners would make in their regular gigs. So what do they pursue it so? Why do they spend hundreds of millions of dollars campaigning for a job that pays a few hundred thousand?
Power.
And true power, you can't put a price on.
All the momentum from the Obama '08 in my campaign in my opinion came to a screeching halt the day AFTER he was elected. It was the day that many of us decided that the hard part was over and that he alone was going to heal all of our country's ills. No more voting for us. Why ever vote again, we already did our part by getting the magical negro in office. Time to let him do all he work from here.
Personal responsibility... what's that?
Many people still fail to see that the local elections have a greater MUCH GREATER impact on our day to day lives than the federal elections. It's the local and state politicians and legislators that draft up bills and pass laws that can have you arrested for sagging your pants or swearing in public. But voting still ain't important?
GTFOHWTSABS...
