Mr. Slim Thugga, You Done Fucked Up

Here at I.S., we have our audience read what some other people have written on their own site. Here goes one from a fellow colleague of ours, Shotta Dru, who is known for having a broad and vivid view on today’s world that we live in. We choose those words very lightly when saying that too. You can find more on Shotta Dru at his site: www.ifundthemental.blogspot.com.

So without any further, because I really don’t need to set this one up so you can read it, here is Dru’s reaction to Slim Fucka Thugga opinion. Because that’s what he wrote, his opinion.

I normally wouldn't write a response or even read any form of statement from 95% of the signed rappers today but the level of ignorance displayed this week by you Slim Thug must be addressed. For those unsure of what I am talking about the controversial article can be found here.  My interest peaked at first from the two opening sentences, but after that it was mostly a downhill turn for the article.  The first complaint made about black women is their love of money.

For starters there isn't a race which doesn't love money so regardless what race you prefer you will encounter women with vial intentions.  Being a black man is easy for Slim Thug to identify with his women so I can understand how his thoughts and ideals developed in this article.  As a human though, we are more prone to place blame elsewhere [than on ourselves].  It’s easier to point the finger because seriously how many people are big enough to admit their fault.

Why do you think money is an issue for those looking for true, genuine, everlasting love?  The hip-hop community is a key source!  Which artists get the most radio spins, whose video can you catch on every blog and TV network?  If there isn't a car with rims, bottles on top of bottles of imported liquor or half naked chicks dancing then it isn't hip-hop, to this generation.

These images have been burned into my peers so when we go out on the street we "think" the only way to be happy and obtain love is via material items. We can go for days on rap songs which talk about this bitch wants my money.  If we promoted ourselves and not dead white men in our pockets the youth would know there is more to an individual than a foreign car and fancy sneakers. So if you feel you only find women who are interested in your money blame yourself Mr. Thugga you are a part of the problem.
"They have to understand that successful Black men are kind of extinct."
Whose fault is that? The building of success has many roads and ways to reach the top but black men are all trying to fit in the same elevator.  Sports and entertainment are not the only fields where we can achieve success.  We need to promote to our youth about planning. I can't even count the amount of "rappers" and "CEO's" I've met over the years but I can easily tell you how many had a Plan B. Zero. Their mind is set on being signed.

Being signed doesn't even guarantee success but again the images promoted to us is you "either slanging crack rock or got a wicked jump shot,” then you made it.  There are plenty of black entrepreneurs across America so let's subscribe to Black Enterprise and put down the XXL ::Kanye shrug:: (no offense).  If men limit themselves we will continue to see little to no results.

This article has done more damage than good Slim Thug.  I'm safely assuming that was not your intention but how could you put every Black woman in the world under one general category and say things like "they need to stand by their man more".  Are black women not dealing with the same struggle if not more as you do as a black man?  As a rapper we can't even list all of the songs or lyrics paying homage to mothers.  In 2005 according to the US Census Bureau there were more than 3.1 million single mothers in America.  I doubt that 3 million black women had daughters so there is a significant amount of black men these women are "raising/standing" by.
"White women treat they man like a king and Black women feel like they
ain't got to do that shit."

I know when these words left your mouth Malcolm and Martin were turning in their graves.  As a black man you should NEVER bad mouth our queens for any other race.  At one point white women were taking advantage of our ancestors and raping them.  I know they never thought, said or felt those white women were treating them like a king then.  So after decades of struggle and desegregation you are finally allowed to date your mulatto girlfriend from Columbia University without getting lynched and you feel like you accomplished something?  What are you doing to help the black men respect each other more as well as the females?

This is a small cry, so I doubt it may even reach your ears Slim but for any rapper who can obtain attention as quickly as yourself from a simple interview you need to promote positivity through your art.  I definitely agree where you talk about black people in need to step it up but don't just be all talk.  Don't only look at Obama for CHANGE, you have the power also, obviously you are concerned about our people.
